Northridge and Sherman Oaks, CA September 10, 2019- As part of an Indivisible National Week of Action, timed to coincide with the first week of the 2019-2020 Legislative Session, East Valley Indivisibles. The Resistance Northridge, Indivisible CA 43, Stand Strong LA and Venice Resistance Indivisible will rally at noon this Thursday, September 12 at the Los Angeles Metropolitan Detention Center.
The Los Angeles event is part of a West Coast coalition relay, where groups from Washington, Oregon and California are sending our Border to Border with Love petition banner beginning on Monday Sept 9 from Blaine, WA and ending on Friday, Sept 13 in San Diego, CA, where they will join with Native, Indivisible and local leaders for a final rally to #DefundHate.
Our Los Angeles portion will have speakers Martha Marion and Igor Kagane from Bend the Arc, Tess Borden from Immigrant Rights group CHIRLA, Carolyn Chriss from East Valley Indivisibles, Janet Ekins and Paula Kahn, Advocates for Adelante, and people sharing their personal stories of how this policy has affected them. Then we will sign the banner and make a video demanding that Congress take action to stop funding hate and cruelty by reducing the ICE & CBP budget to 2016 levels, and vote NO on any Appropriations Bill or Continuing Resolution that doesn’t include these two items.
The groups are further asking every one of their members to tweet, call and tag their Representatives demanding they represent our values by voting to #DefundHate.
